Research Publications
The following section features the research publications I have contributed to during my doctoral training. Together, they demonstrate my expertise in neuroscience and my ability to collaborate effectively in advancing scientific discovery.
DJ-1-mediated repression of the RNA-binding protein FMRP is predicted to impact known Alzheimer’s disease-related protein networks
Journal of Alzheimer's Disease (2024)
This study investigates how DJ-1 regulates the RNA-binding protein FMRP and its impact on Alzheimer’s-related protein networks. Our findings highlight molecular pathways, including autophagy and ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis, that may contribute to disease progression and suggest potential therapeutic targets.

A paradoxical switch: the implications of excitatory GABAergic signaling in neurological disorders
Frontiers in Psychiatry (2024)
This review outlines how GABA, typically the brain's inhibitory neurotransmitter, can paradoxically become excitatory under several pathological conditions in the nervous system.

Aberrant DJ-1 expression underlies L-type calcium channel hypoactivity in dendrites in tuberous sclerosis complex and Alzheimer’s disease
PNAS (2023)
This study explores how the comorbid dysregulation of DJ-1 impairs L-type voltage-gated calcium function between both tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and Alzheimer's disease.

DetectSyn: A Rapid, Unbiased Fluorescent Method to Detect Changes in Synapse Density
Journal of Visualized Experiments (2022)
This article presents a novel, streamlined, proximity ligation-based fluorescent assay to quantify synaptic engagement across multiple research models.
